I assume what people mean by "proper" Engish is American Standard English--a dialect that NO one speaks, mind you. Standard English follows so many illogical twists and turns that it's no better than any other dialect spoken. To be prudish about someone's spoken tongue is rather foolish, imho.

vent time....friends who steal
by lucifer inokay i need to vent, i have a good friend who steals, i'll call her tina.
she is not poor, still lives with her parents who spoil her rotten, they buy her anything and ask for nothing in return.
she has had one job i think and didn't like it so she told the manager off and quit after maybe a month...it was at a video store for f's sake!

he is very knowlegable about the other countries in the world but he always seem to make negative statements about blacks, hispanics, asians and native americans.

Sounds like a real ahole. However, learning that professors are simply people with opinions like everyone else is one of the hardest lessons. You did well by approaching him--I think that's the best way to address your concerns. If he won't discuss it or simply belittles you, move on. It's not worth your time. The black fiance proves nothing, though. Remember that many slaves were impregnated by their masters.

UPDATE 2: Since Freedom is Free, Why is it Taxed?

mom said be home by 5, but there was a huge accident a mile from where i live, and i sat on the road for like 10 - 12 minutes, and was 5 minutes late getting home.
mom was there (didn't go to work- guess why) and she was pissed.

Of course, I think the first instinct would be to save the woman. The situation doesn't really work. Would most people make the same decision if given time to reflect?

Ok, here's a hypothetical situation that I find interesting. Now, imagine you are in the house of a lady in her 90's with ailing health. Further suppose that in this house she possesses the Mona Lisa. Now, as you are visiting her, peddling whatever goods or services you’ve come to pedal, (you don’t know her personally), imagine that the house become engulfed in flames. You are in the living room, but are quickly surrounded by suffocating, noxious vapors and intolerable heat that threatens to end your lives at any moment.
You have exactly enough time to either save the lady or save the painting. Which do you save, and why? Would you feel guilty? Is the question even worthy of asking? Do we value some art or inanimate models of life more than the very life it is modeling?

Duh, the question is so intrinsic to my concept of self-defense that I can scarcely assign it any merit. I think this sums it up pretty well--I'm a southerner.
Subject: Liberals, Conservatives & Southerners
Question: How do you tell the difference between liberals, conservatives, and southerners? Answer: Pose the following question: You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises the knife, and charges. You are carrying a Glock 40, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?
Liberal Answer:
Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation? Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it? Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children? Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? Should I call 9-1-1? Why is this street so deserted? We need to raise taxes, have a paint and weed day and make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior. This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for a few days and try to come to a consensus.
